The elephant is a huge but adorable animal. Its fluffy ears and dancing trunk fascinate children so much that they sometimes want to draw their own cartoon elephant. And this tutorial is just for them.
So, let’s learn how to draw a cute baby elephant with this easy and quick 9-step tutorial.
Step-by-Step Guide for Drawing a Cute Elephant
Materials Required:
- A Blank Sheet of Paper
- Pencil & Eraser
- Black Marker or Pen
- Colors (Watercolors, Colored Pencils, or Crayons)
This simple elephant drawing will take about 20-30 minutes to complete.
Total Time: 30 minutes
Step #1: Draw the Elephant’s Head
Draw a smooth circle at the center of your paper. This will be the head of your cute elephant.
Step #2: Draw the Elephant’s Eyes
Now, inside this large circle, or the head, we’ll draw the elephant’s eyes. Draw two tiny circles next to each other with a small space between them.
Step #3: Add Pupils and Draw the Right Ear
Next, let’s draw the pupils. Draw a smaller circle in each eye and color it black, leaving a white mark for the glazing effects. Or, you can also add a white spot with a white gel pen. And your elephant now has a lovely pair of eyes.
It’s time to draw the right ear now. First, draw an oval shape from the top right corner of your elephant’s head and connect it to the lower right side of the head.
Step #4: Draw the Elephant’s Left Ear
Now draw your elephant’s left ear using the same method as Step 3.
Step #5: Draw the Elephant’s Trunk
Now, let’s draw the elephant trunk. Starting from below the eyes, draw two curved lines that are bent towards each other until half of the length. Now, extend these lines parallel to each other up to some distance below the elephant’s head.
Next, join the bottom ends of these two lines with a horizontal line, and your elephant now has a strong & long trunk.
Step #6: Draw the Elephant’s Body
After you’ve completed the elephant face, it’s time to draw the basic shape of its body.
Starting from the bottom left of the left ear, draw a rough circle or a very curved line downwards and connect it to the bottom left of the elephant’s head near the trunk.
Step #7: Draw the Elephant’s Legs
Your elephant needs legs to walk around, right? You can draw them easily. On the bottom of your elephant’s tummy or body, draw two small but rounded rectangles at a distance from each other.
Step #8: Draw the Elephant’s Tail & Erase Intersections
This is a very simple step, but it is important. On the left side of the body, draw a tiny, slightly curved line. This is your elephant’s tail.
Finally, remove the intersecting lines from the body and legs. And there you have it; a cute elephant of your own.
Step #9: Coloring!
Finally, your favorite part has arrived; coloring. You only require one color, blue. So fill your elephants’ faces, bodies, legs, and ears with blue paint, but leave the eyes white.
And just like that, anyone can draw an adorable baby elephant using these nine simple steps. While drawing, don’t worry about achieving the perfect shape shown in the images; instead, concentrate on drawing steady lines and shapes to enhance your drawing skills. And lastly, don’t forget to have fun.
